Dry Brushing...what are the benefits?

Benefits of dry brushing

If you're anything like me, or some 80% of women, you're stuck with pesky cellulite that just won't go away. I hate it so much! And nothing reminds me that I have it like summertime, or living in LA where it's basically always summertime. I've done the squats and the creams...but I've yet to try dry brushing!

So, what exactly is dry brushing and what are the benefits? Well, first you need a dry brush. The brush has firm bristles (you can find them with either natural or synthetic) which when rubbed on the skin thoroughly exfoliates it while stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage (which helps release toxins) and allegedly minimizing cellulite.

How do you dry brush? The dry brushing technique is easy! In the morning, before your shower, start at your feet and brush up your body towards your heart. I recommend doing this in the shower (before you get wet) because initially you will be surprised just how much skin sloths off! Once you've gone up your legs to your heart work from your hands towards your heart and then do your chest and stomach in counter-clockwise motions.

Do I think it's all it's cracked up to be? I have no idea! I've heard it's amazing as well as a total waste of time. Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who thinks everything is a great idea in theory but just never commits to a serious regime. The greatest eye cream in the world? Yeah, I'm sure it's wonderful if you remember to use it more than once a week like me. So I decided in order to remain accountable to my month long commitment to dry brush I would promise you my thoughts on it. So here goes! Stay tuned for my update and whether or not you should be jumping on board with dry brushing!

EDIT:

October 6, 2017

I wanted to revisit this post to give an update now that it's October and 3 months (how?!?!) have gone by since my commitment to give dry brushing a try.

So, let's get right to it--is dry brushing worth it?

YES! I love it and definitely see a difference in my dry brushing before and after. it's a part of my daily routine that I truly enjoy. When I was traveling a couple weeks ago I forgot to pack my dry brush and I genuinely missed it...trust me, this is one habit I won't be breaking. It's like the perfect back scratch but all over your body and the tingling rush of getting the blood flowing first thing in the morning is a charged wakeup! Plus, my skin has never been smoother and I swear I'm getting a better shave as well. Now what everyone really wants to know...is my cellulite gone? No, but I'm convinced it is better! Now, for all of you who didn't want to start during the summer because of your tan, what are you waiting for?

January 5, 2018

Usually the winter is super rough on my skin but I'm still dry brushing and I find it has been really helpful in keeping my legs from getting those nasty dry scales! Dry brushing is absolutely best in the winter, just make sure to heavily moisturize after!

In case you want to join me here are some options in all price ranges. Personally, I don't think there's a 'best' dry brush.

(or just go to CVS!)
