Beauty Dupes - Glow Recipe and Bliss Watermelon Sleeping Mask

June 6, 2018

I try a lot of beauty products. Like, a lot. Some are luxury and worth every penny, while other times I come across something more affordable and am happy for the much less expensive replacement. So I thought it would be fun to start trying out beauty products and giving their less expensive dupes a shot and giving a review to you guys whether it's worth the splurge or you should save your money and go for the beauty dupe.

Our first contenders in Battle of the Beauty Brands is the Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask vs the Bliss What a Melon Reviving and De-Stressing Overnight Mask. I should note, the below are my opinions and all product was purchased by me. This post is in no way sponsored or affiliated with either brand. You have my promise that I will always be completely transparent if I'm ever reviewing product I have been gifted or compensated to review.

Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask Review

Glow Recipe, who appeared on Shark Tank, has come out with the most delicious watermelon sleeping mask. Everywhere I turn everyone is currently raving about the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. Beauty bloggers, lifestyle bloggers, the girl at the grocery store...I haven't heard one bad thing about it. And I'll admit, I like it too! It smells like delicious watermelon and leaves your skin super moisturized, what's not to like? 1,000 other people agree with me giving it 4 stars out of 5 on the Sephora website.

As stated by Sephora "This luxuriously bouncy, breathable sleeping mask refreshingly hydrates, smooths, and perfects skin overnight with a revolutionary pillow-proof, transfer-proof formula. The oil-free, lightweight, glow-boosting hybrid is formulated with ultra-soothing watermelon extract, hydrating hyaluronic acid, and gentle AHAs that work while you sleep to tone and clarify roughened, dull complexions. AHAs smooth the surface of the skin by banishing dead, rough surface cells, clearing the path for ultra-effective, lasting hydration, while hyaluronic acid binds moisture to the skin for an incredibly nourished complexion. Skin is baby-soft and bright in the morning, effortlessly."

But it's $45 for 2.7 oz. Now, is that the most expensive thing ever? No, definitely not. However....

Bliss What a Melon Review

I was perusing through my beloved Targét and stumbled upon something that also happens to be a Watermelon product by Bliss called What a Melon Reviving and De-Stressing Overnight Mask. For $12.99 ($16 on the Bliss website), admittedly it's only 1.7 oz, a full ounce less that the other mask but I was like, "Well, this sounds awfully familiar! Could this be a great Watermelon Sleeping Mask dupe?!"

According to the Bliss website "This potent overnight mask creates a nutrient-rich veil to bring tired, stressed-out skin back to life. Removes dead cells and toxins for a refreshed, dewy complexion; boosts skin’s defenses against stress and the environment. Balances to calm and de-stress; rehydrates as it tops off moisture levels and electrolytes to plump and soften. Wake up to vibrant, supple skin."

Well, okay then!! Naturally I just had to try it so I could see what, if anything, was different between the two masks.

Similarities

  • Watermelon scent

  • gooey consistency

  • Calming and rehydrating, revealing a dewy complexion

  • Good for all skin types

  • Rub on, let dry, sleep on it, wash off in the morning

  • Paraben and Cruelty Free, Vegan

  • Use 2-3 times per week

  • Key ingredient- Watermelon extract

Differences

  • Glow Recipe comes with a spoon to scoop out/stir the product

  • Glow Recipe states All Natural Ingredients, I cannot determine if Bliss is

  • If you're a 'packaging person' Glow Recipe feels slightly more lux, but Bliss would be better for travel!

The Verdict

Both formulas are rather 'runny' but the Glow Recipe is even more so, making it unnecessarily messy. I also found it separated a lot more and required a lot of mixing before application. Aside from that I find both products provide the moisture they advertise as well as the delicious watermelon scent. Both have ingredients that are on par with each other, and both are cruelty free and vegan; therefore, for the price, my absolutely winner is Bliss What a Melon. I just don't see enough of a difference, or really any difference, so why spend the money? Plus, being sold at Target makes it so easy to find wherever you are. Bliss for the Win, it is the perfect Watermelon Sleeping Mask dupe.

What do you guys think of this new idea? Should I review more dupe beauty products? If so, what products should I compare? I'm really into helping you find affordable alternatives if they're out there!

Love you, mean it!

JB
